It's our mission to help improve your overall well-being by sharing the benefits of aqua therapy through customized exercise and treatment programs performed under the supervision and guidance of a qualified aqua therapist.
Less pain, more gain!
The buoyancy of the water supports your body weight up to 90%, making the effects of gravity practically non-existent. Decreasing the amount of joint and muscle stress that's typically related to land-based exercising makes it easier and less painful to perform exercises. As a result, you're able to get the maximum benefit of an effective, strengthening workout without endangering the joints and paying the price of pain. This aspect is especially useful for people with arthritis, chronic pain or knee, ankle, hip, neck or back injuries.
Resistance is the first step to change
Water provides resistance in all directions allowing for strengthening and endurance training in a natural and adjustable environment. Using the resistance of the water in exercise has a similar effect to exercising with weights in a gym. Water resistance is also multi-directional: Movement in any direction at any speed offers different levels of resistance thus increasing effectiveness and offering ample variety.
The pressure is on
Hydrostatic pressure improves the blood circulation and cardiac efficiency.
The main benefits include improving balance, coordination and flexibility, building muscle strength and endurance, assisting with gait, improving mobility, reducing stress, promoting effective breathwork and relaxation.
Aqua Therapy caters to a broad spectrum of medical conditions including
One of Aqua Coaches' main drives behind becoming a trained Aqua Therapist has been to help people suffering from aquaphobia, also known as a fear of water. Our founding member and devout surfer, Nadzyra Calonius, has experienced first-handedly how debilitating the effects can be of this condition: "In the past I have experienced several near-drownings myself, which resulted in a deeply-ingrained fear of entering the water.
While researching different ways to overcome my fear, I discovered the effectiveness of aqua therapy and realized that the best way to heal was to start right at the source of my fear: The water.
As I did my research, I stumbled across shocking statistics revealing the severity of this condition worldwide: More than two-thirds of the Western population has a fear of water. Over a third does not know how to swim. The percentage is even higher in the rest of the world, leading to the alarmingly high number of 236,000 drownings each year (NCBI 2020, Gallup Poll, 1998, Psychology Today, World Health Organization April 2021). Fear of water can be of mild intensity (lacking confidence), or it could manifest itself as a crippling and very intense negative state and condition (Chronic Water Phobia). In order to help people get back into the water or learn how to swim, their fear needs to addressed first. Aqua therapy provides very effective assistance with helping you overcome your fears."
